Hartford, Thursday.
Dear Mother—
I have just returned from shipping Mollie northward. None of us was willing to give her up, she was such a quiet sweet influence in the house; but the Bellows Falls folk wouldn’t let her stay longer. However, we did gouge a day or two out of them, by persistency & management; so we are that much ahead, anyway. We have enjoyed Mollie’s visit ever so much, & hope for a chance at her again before she gets home. She asked me to say she has been a good girl; but it didn’t need saying—as the French are said to say, it goes without saying.
Mr. Whitmore was here the other night, & he & Livy & Mollie & I had a game of logomachy—however, none of those people beat. All the gang are well., & send you great love—S L C in
included.
