Montreal, Tuesday.
Livy darling, I reached here at 8. 30 p. m., two hours ago, found Mr. Dawson waiting, & he has just gone. I have to get up at 6.30 tomorrow morning, because I’ve got to drive to Dawson’s house & borrow his best black frock coat (he & I are the same size & build, fortunately) & wear it at luncheons in Ottawa. The rest of my clothes are all right & according to regulations. My train leaves at 8. 30 tomorrow morning.
I thought it was so lucky that I happened to strike that New England train yesterday—but alas! Osgood supposed that of course I would take the regular train—so he transferred himself to it, & we moved north at the same moment within 8 feet of each other but never suspecting it. He went back to Springfield ransacking the train for me, & then returned southward on some later train. Hang it this week is full of blunders—& fools.
I love you, sweetheart, I love you dearly, & so goodnight & kiss all of them for me.
Saml.
