Boston, Tuesday afternoon.
Livy darling, I grew so uneasy, before I reached Boston, that I determined to go back home unless I got news that you were better. I have just received your answering telegram, & am greatly relieved—would in fact be satisfied if it had come from somebody who was in the str habit of speaking the truth in such circumstances. However, I will try to believe it.
I was greatly pleased to find that Osgood thinks we need not stay in Canada beyond the 14th. Since then we have concluded that if we return by the way of New York we can see one evening of the great billiard match & still get to Hartford as soon as if we came home by the old regular route. Well, we shall see. Anyway, I am to be away only about half the first-proposed fortnight—for which I am very glad. And so, sweetheart, I am most lovingly
Yours
Saml
