hartford, april 24th. 1883.

dear charlie:—

today or tomorrow i will inclose to you a letter from [ella] lampton. you will see in it a suggestion which she makes, and will let me know what the prospect is regarding it.

i agree with you, that these worthless contracts are a bad backing. it cannot be safe to attack any one of them, since they could off-set us so [formidably] by arraying the rest of the batch against us. we shall probably have to drop the whole matter and say nothing at [all.


osgood] will be here tomorrow, and i will hand him those things you sent.


[liva] is improving all the time, but is still confined to her bed.
