Hartford Saturday.

My Dear Cable—

You are to lecture here the 3d of April, on “Creole Women,” in Unity Hall. So that’s all arranged. Formal invitation, duly signed by prominent citizens, will be g presently sent you. Advertising will shortly begin. Preliminary “paragraphing” will begin now. Stir up Roswell Smith, please, & have him gather his clans & make preparation.

Now to other business. This morning, while I was getting out of bed, an idea struck me; & when I had finished putting on my socks it was already in a state of completion, & I said “Now I’ll write to Cable & say, don’t make any more lecture engagements till we’ve had a talk.” That is what I do say. What you have made, fill, but don’t make any more till you’ve seen me.

Yrs Ever

Mark.
