Charles E. Perkins, a nephew of Harriet Beecher Stowe and of Henry Ward Beecher, began practicing law in his native Hartford in 1855. He was SLC’s attorney from 1872 to 1882, and a member of the Hartford Monday Evening Club along with SLC, Joseph H. Twichell, Charles Dudley Warner, and others.
