Charles (Charley) Langdon, the son of Jervis and Olivia Lewis Langdon, met SLC as a passenger on the Quaker City cruise (1867). SLC dined with Charley’s family in New York in December 1867; on this occasion SLC met Charley’s sister Olivia (Livy), who would become SLC’s wife in 1870. Charley succeeded his father in the management of the family’s coal business; he also exercised considerable responsibility for his sister’s inherited investments. He had three children with his wife, Ida: Jervis, Julia, and Ida.
