Fanny C. Hesse, Charles Dudley Warner’s sister-in-law and a frequent resident of the Warner household, appears to have begun working as SLC’s secretary around November 1876. A record of 4 May 1877 says she has “ceased from her office of Private Secretary,” but SLC letters and manuscripts in her handwriting continue to occur through December 1877.
