Short Biography |
Richard Watson Gilder edited the New York monthly Century magazine, which published many of Mark Twain’s writings over the period 1881–1901, including heavily edited extracts from Huckleberry Finn (1884–85), portions of A Connecticut Yankee (1889), and the serialization of Pudd’nhead Wilson (1893–94). Gilder was a prolific poet whose work has not stood the test of time. SLC and his daughters were personally close to the Gilder family, and stayed with them on their property in the Berkshires in the summer of 1904 following Livy’s death. |
