1 This postscript, clearly an addendum to the previous letter to Lee, was probably mailed in a separate envelope. Clemens wrote it on a new sheet of paper, in spite of the fact that he had inscribed the earlier letter on the first page of a four-page folder, leaving three blank pages available for a postscript.
