1 An unidentified member of the London Morayshire Club had sent Clemens tickets to its second anniversary festival on 11 December. The club carried out charitable enterprises to benefit the people of Moray, a county in northeast Scotland (“London Morayshire Club,” Elgin [Scotland] Courant, 16 Dec 73, no page).

1 Clemens canceled Stoddard’s “try to” and retraced his “be,” possibly for emphasis. Clemens did in fact attend (11 and 12 Dec 73 to OLC).
