Hartford Dec 16/80.
Dear Dan—
I am very sorry indeed to hear you have been sick; but very glad to hear you will be around again soon.
I shall arrive in New York Monday evening, with Boston friends, to go to theatre & a Tile Club supper at midnight. Next morning, if you are well, we will have a talk & lo afterwards look in on Sneider., if at his shop.
My advice is, take Mr. Russell’s offer for the districts he has proposed to buy—one to be taken (&, I suppose, paid for) now, the others within a year if not meantime disposed of. The prices he offers seem fair. He does not need to see me. I could be of no service; this is business, & belongs to your department.
I wish you would send me a couple of my largest & [bro ] largest Scrap-Books. Mrs. Clemens wants them for something ‸or‸ other in Susie & Bay’s department. Sent you a German book to be re-bound the other day; hope it arrived safe.
Ys Ever
Sam
