Dec. 19.
Dear Fuller—
I’m leaving the music box business alone till I get out of this awful press of work. Then I’m going to get you or the other man to fix it.
I wrote Dawson that if I did not accept by [yester] ‸the‸ 20th, to cross me off the list. He wrote humorously back requiring my presence & saying he should give out that I was coming, & would shoot me if I made him lie, & so on. So much for ever having anything to do with a stranger. If my work is still in the way, of course I shan’t be there; & ‸as‸ it rigidly promises to be in the way, I wish you would just pleasantly & dexterously get him to drop the matter permanently, for I don’t want any unsettled things hanging in the air when I am trying to get through with this eternal book.
Ys Ever
Mark.
I don’t want him to write me, either—it simply adds a bother.
