Dr. I. F. Hart
em spaceem spaceem spaceSir

Mr Clemens is still absent from home, but he does not expect to deliver any lectures after his return— If he should be persuaded into doing so he will not take as long a trip as Elmira—1

Yours truly

1 Hart, an Elmira physician, had invited Clemens to lecture in Elmira for the Young Men’s Christian Association. Olivia was answering at least some of her husband’s business correspondence, just as she had done while he was on tour in 1871 (L4, 496, 499–500 n. 1, 504, 505–6 n. 8; L5, 267 n. 2). In this case she was speaking for herself as well, since she was opposed to his lecturing in 1874 (1 Feb 74 to Redpath).
