1 The Clemenses were scheduled to leave London on Sunday, 19 October, for Liverpool, where Clemens was to lecture the following evening. They sailed for America on Tuesday, 21 October, on the Batavia, again commanded by their friend John Mouland (“Latest Ship News,” New York Tribune, 3 Nov 73, 5).
