1 This concert hall, opened in 1774, was an elegant establishment famous for its concerts, at which luminaries such as Haydn, Liszt, and Paganini had performed. Its “ceiling was domed and the walls were decorated with paintings by West, Cipriani, Gainsborough and others” (Weinreb and Hibbert, 362–63). The building was demolished in 1900.
