I had a short note from Sam this morning saying he would be over in a day or two.1

The Clemenses reached Hartford on 2 or 3 October, after at least a day in
New York at the St. Nicholas Hotel. (The New York Evening Express’s report that they were at the
hotel—“Morning Arrivals,” 3 Oct 71,
3—was belated.) Clemens probably had this note hand delivered
to Orion at the American Publishing Company offices.
